What Dirty Got Into Today

After coming home the past few days, I’ve been contemplating the idea of making a new category here specifically for the things our dog Dirty gets into while we’re out. Tonight, after Danielle and I got home from doing some more last minute holiday shopping, I’m finally convinced that this category is necessary.

A good fish, and an asshole.

On April 27, 2003, Jessica brought home a beautiful little Beta fish. We named her Hio.

Hio enjoyed squishing her head between the marbles at the bottom of her bowl. If she wasn’t squishing her head at the bottom, she’d float sideways up at the top. Presumably because she’s wished for death since the moment she met me, and because she was an asshole.

Mom enjoyed talking to Hio in a high-pitched voice for tens of minutes at a time, petting her through the glass.

This morning, after having had her for 3 years, 7 months and 14 days, I found her unresponsive to being fed. Hio died doing what she loved, both with her head squished between the marbles, and floating sideways.

Funeral processions will be held tonight, in the garden by the side of my apartment.

You were a good fish, Hio. I’ll miss you.

Crappy ending.

Kindof a shitty dream, which I think was partially influenced by recent news.

I was taken up in a helicopter heading towards Framingham and everything was snowcovered. We had recorded the trip to use on a movie. When we went to land, it was done like we were in an airplane and using the icy street as a runway. Just as we stopped, I noticed 4 little dogs crossing the road, and this old woman in her car was heading straight at them. I jumped out of the helicopter and ran to try and catch the woman’s attention. She actually sped up, and hit one of the dogs. I started pounding on her windshield and yelling at her to back up which she slowly did. I quickly picked up the dog she hit and brought it to the side of the road. There were some signs of movement, but my alarm clock woke me up before I could find out if the puppy lived.
